Medical Qigong is an ancient form of Chinese energetic medicine, and is one of the four main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage. As with the other "Branches" of TCM, healing occurs through balancing qi or electromagnetic energy which surrounds and pervades all living creatures.
Disruptions in the electromagnetic energy of the body occur throughout our lifetime as a result of poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, injuries, surgery, suppression of emotions, and aging. The goal of qigong is to correct these bio-energetic imbalances and blockages. This enables the body to strengthen and regulate the internal organs, the nervous system and the immune system, relieve pain, regulate hormones, and strengthen and release deep-seated emotions and stress.

Taking care of the body is an essential part of martial arts fitness and well-being. Equally important is having a healthy mindset to cultivate clarity, enable self-management responses and application of power techniques. As part of our whole body approach to martial arts, we include meditation (or mental focus training) as a core part of our program.

Passionate about helping others be and feel safe, Sensei Robert hosts various self-defense clinics (including for women, first responders, teens and Veterans) that teach practical techniques, borrowing heavily from Kenpo Karate and Krav Maga systems, to enable skillful responses to unexpected and anticipated attacks, while sharpening confidence, in-the-moment situational awareness and self-protection. Also a great gift to give young adults heading off to college or anyone else looking for safety practices and techniques.
04
An avid servant in the community, Sensei Robert offers specialized workshops to support high school teens, college students, Veterans and disadvantaged communities.
With our young adults learning to navigate high school, college and beyond, we place a unique focus on skills that help cultivate situational awareness, learn self-defense techniques and grow understanding of campus safety practices.
(For 9th-12th grade and college students only.)
As a Veteran, Sensei Robert appreciates the service and sacrifice our men and women who serve make to preserve the freedoms enjoyed in our country. To honor them, Sensei Robert provides Veteran-specific workshops that integrate various martial arts applications to help reduce stress and anxiety and promote balance and a sense of mental and physical well-being.
Bridge Builders for Peace & Well-Being
The practice of Qigong is restorative, replenishing and even life-changing as it helps cultivate inner peace and clarity of mind as well as promote well-being. Sadly, many communities in the United States and abroad do not have access to local Qigong resources to support these well-being practices. In an effort to help create bridges across families, communities and countries, The Institute frequently offers virtual Qigong classes and workshops for local and international communities with the hope of supporting peace, connection and well-being.
